Natural Herbs to Stop Snoring

Snoring is one of the reasons why many people ended up being alone! Studies claim that it can put relationships and marital vows to the test, and may even lead to a divorce.

While curing it seems almost impossible at first, there is one therapy on the market that is said to be very effective - traditional Chinese medicine. Most anti snoring medications in this group consists of one or more of these three herbs: immature bitter orange, bromelain and coenzyme Q10, which all helps in clearing the nasal passages allowing air to flow more freely.

But can these herbs be trusted? Are they safe to use? Let's take a closer look.

Immature bitter orange is one of the most widely used herbs in traditional Chinese medicine. It is rich in Vitamin C and that makes it useful in boosting the immune system and stimulating the appetite. It also serves as an ingredient to a number of antifungal, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory ointments.

However, it is basically the synephrine content of the herb which makes it beneficial as an anti snoring agent. Synephrine acts as a nasal decongestant and an antihistamine, thereby eliminating or reducing the obstructions in the nasal passages which can aggravate snoring.

Bromelain is also an anti inflammatory drug and a digestive aid from a group of enzymes found in pineapples. It helps reduce the mucus in the air canal, which is one factor that affects snoring.

Coenzyme Q10 is a protein that helps our cells work optimally. It is mostly found in people's heart, pancreas, kidneys, liver and lungs. It also acts as an antioxidant and a sleep promoter when combined with bromelain and synephrine.

However, you need to be especially cautious when taking these herbal medications. Here are some things you need to remember when using them as snoring aids:

Synephrine

* Should NOT be taken by pregnant women, or those with spleen and stomach problems.
* Should be taken an hour before bedtime with a glass of water and NOT with other herbal stimulants like coffee, tea, ginseng, among others.
* May keep you awake so please take this anti snoring herb in moderate amounts.

Bromelain

* Should be taken on an empty stomach. Eating heavy dinner increases the risk of snoring.
* Should NOT be taken with other anti-coagulant drugs and by those with ulcers and allergic reactions to bromelain.

Coenzyme Q10

* Take this medication in moderation for it can sometimes cause rashes, dizziness, nausea, insomnia and abdominal pain.
* Should not be taken with anti-coagulants and insulin.
Though these herbs help ease your snoring problems, remember that it is of utmost importance to consult your doctor before taking any kind of anti-snoring herbs and drugs. And if you're already taking one or the other, please do so in moderation.

So, there you have it - some alternative anti snoring medications that can help you and your bed partner enjoy a good night's rest. Sleep tight !!
